even more supportive.
Introduction
As a parent, caretaker, teacher, friend, significant other, or community member, it is your job to insure the people you're around feel safe and comfortable in school, the community, home, and their day to day life. Gender identity and expression are a large part of everyone’s lives, but it can be hard to find resources to explain the “dos and don'ts” of something that is a mostly recent issue. With this website we hope to help you learn more about gender identity as a whole, as well as what you can do to be a more supportive person.
Gender is not a strict binary between male and female, but rather a broad spectrum. Most people use sex and gender interchangeably, which is not the correct use. While sex is based on biological features and chromosomes, gender is simply how we identify ourselves. Gender expression is how one expresses their gender; what clothes they wear, how they style their hair, and generally how they present themselves (these expressions may or may not go along with socially constructed gender norms).
